Frequently Asked Questions
Why ropes?
They’re Portable, they’re Scalable, & they’re Modular (i.e. it’s easy to combine them with other workout schemes and
equipment). This keeps interest high which means you’ll train longer and more frequently.
The Rope patterns express the Universal Angles of Attack which carries over directly into your Martial Arts
training.
They develop your hand speed and your grip strength –critical in ALL of the Combative Arts -
Karate; FMA; Jiu Jitsu/Judo; Shooting.
The range of motion provides Strength and Endurance in a wide range of angles and planes - this is valuable for injury prevention. Ropes allow training in angles and planes that aren’t possible with other resistance training
devices.
What size Rope should I use?
A 30-35’ x 1.5” rope is the best choice for the Martial Ropes patterns. It allows a more “lively” and explosive expression on the rope.
Manila or a Poly Blend?
Either one is fine. Most often it’s a budget decision. Manila is heavier than an equivalent rope in Poly or blended material.
What do I use to anchor the rope?
Anything smooth (other than a baby’s bottom). I prefer to use a 70 lb. KB, but you can use a lamp post, goal post, soccer goal, basketball pole, sandbag, a chair with a partner sitting in it, or even another rope.
